Getting to know the goals and expectations of your clients is the best way to successfully serve them. Instead of starting off an interview with a sales pitch, ask your client if they have any questions upfront. It is always critical to get the client’s feelings or concerns out in the open as early as possible. Allow your clients to finish speaking without interruption. When the client speaks, listen intently and really focus on what they’re saying.
Practice the following three tips to let your clients know that you’re really listening and you truly care about how they feel.
1. Allow time for questions.
2. Don’t interrupt.
3. Be an attentive listener.
An excellent way to enhance your ability to listen, and in a very subtle but effective way impress your client, is to simply put your pen down whenever the client is speaking. If you get in the habit of doing this you will find that you will make the client feel that what they are saying is of utmost importance to you.
Another Valuable Tip: When meeting with a married couple, make sure to hand a business card to both of them—and hand the card to the wife first.
