The MDRT Foundation and volunteers from around the world worked from dusk until dawn during the week of March 11-17, to build a 12,000 square-foot bright and colorful state-of-the-art playground in the Sea Grape Community Park in Eight Mile Rock, West End, Grand Bahama Island.
The small town suffered severe hurricane damage after being hit by hurricanes in 2004 and 2005. Anthony “Tiger” J. Longley, a 17-year MDRT member from Nassau, Bahamas, nominated the town for the build because it was the only area that had not yet received any support or commitment for community park development.
The playground was made possible by a $100,000 grant from the MDRT Foundation to Kids Around the World (KIDS) to cover the cost of equipment and shipping from the United States to the Bahamas.
Check out first-hand the daily experiences and photos from the build by visiting the MDRT Foundation Bahama Build Blog.
On behalf of everyone at MDRT, we are extremely grateful for the outpouring of financial and hands-on assistance we received to make this build possible. Please visit the Foundation Web site to find out how you can get involved or make a donation.
