It’s Never Too Late to Start Late!

For a long time, I believed my family, friends, husband and teachers were responsible for shaping my life.  I believed certain conditions and situations I faced were the root of my destiny.  After dealing with financial difficulties, I realized that I couldn’t play the blame game any longer and had to choose a direction for my life.  At the age of 44, I decided to pursue a career in financial planning.

Women who choose to start a career at a late stage can project themselves and use what they’ve already learned in life.  Many have already dealt with home-related issues and won’t panic under pressure.  As for me, I had the experience and education, which I refer to as the “MBA in life.”  My experience included funding my children’s college education, saving and investing for retirement, and buying my first home.

I advise women to use the experience gained from home and apply it to their new career.  In my mind, age didn’t matter but personal attitude did.  It’s truly liberating to have a sense of achievement, accomplishment and freedom when entering your first job.  You have a brain, now use it.

Keep this in mind not only in your own life, but in the lives of your clients facing the same scenario.

Hey Sandi, what you have said is so true. There is no time bar to get up and do something with ones life. I am 56 and I just got started. I got divorced last year and had to work to supplement my income. Financial planning has proved a very satisfying experience as I can relate so many life instances when speaking to prospects.

Hi Sandi,
Reading your writeups inspired me. I am 51 years of age and had only just join this industry of financial planning for 3 months. Getting out of the comfort zone and restarting a career in life is challenging, or at least to me. Like any new startups, building the clientiele base takes time, lots of momentum and self-discipline. It is about being self-motivated as well. You inspire me. I will keep going ;)
